Meetings are held three times each year in: • January, over the Iowa Communications Network, • May, day before the annual state breastfeeding conference, and • September For more information about these meetings contact Holly Szcodronski . History of the Task Force The Task Force formed in 1986 when a group of nurses and dietitians came together to develop action plans for Iowa to achieve the 1990 national objectives for breastfeeding. This group surveyed hospitals in Iowa regarding their breastfeeding practices and based on the responses from the surveys developed a training opportunity. They then traveled the state providing current information on breastfeeding support. In 1990 the Task Force expanded to include interested organizations and individuals in Iowa. The coalition continues to support organizations and individuals in Iowa to meet the national health objective for breastfeeding which is by 2010 that at least 75% of infants will be breastfeed at birth, 50% will continue to be breastfeed at 6 months and 25% will be breastfeed to at least one year.
